Families and individuals

Simple steps can help keep you and your family healthier this winter. Advice on how you can manage flu this winter.

 

Remember: 

  • Wash your hands regularly
  • Be vaccinated against the flu
    • Important information regarding children's vaccination
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough and sneeze
  • Avoid close contact with sick people
  • Stay at home if you are sick and keep sick children at home from school and other activities
  • Teach children the importance of hand washing and covering coughs and sneezes

Important note for parents and carers:

Every year children die from flu, so don't ignore sickness, especially if your child is having trouble breathing. Keep sick children home from school, child care and other activities (eg sports training or playing with friends). Avoid visiting people who are more likely to get really sick if they get the flu. This includes elderly people and people in hospital.
