Between The Flags
NSW Health is implementing a program called Between the Flags initiated by the Clinical Excellence Commission to improve the way we recognise and respond to patients when their clinical condition starts to deteriorate.
We've called this new program Between the Flags because it's based on the way our Surf Life Savers keep watch over us and ensure we remain within safe boundaries.
Research into health systems around the world now shows that some warning signs can be recognised earlier. Between the Flags supports doctors and nurses in knowing these signs, making clinical decisions on when to seek help and what sort of help is needed.
NSW is leading the way by introducing a standardised system in every hospital across the state that improves the way we recognise and respond to patients who are clinically deteriorating. Our health care team will keep a close eye on patients and act quickly on any warning signs.
