10 July 2012 Kempsey Hospital Design Team Appointed
KEMPSEY HOSPITAL DESIGN TEAM APPOINTED
The Deputy Premier and the Member for Oxley, Andrew Stoner, and the Minister for Health, Jillian Skinner, today announced the appointment of the lead consultant team for the redevelopment of Kempsey District Hospital. The NSW Government has provided $40 million towards the Kempsey redevelopment project, with a further $40 million from the Federal Government through the Health and Hospital Fund announced in May. Mr Stoner announced Johnstaff Projects has been appointed as project manager and BVN Architecture have been appointed as the architects for the project, with Altus Page Kirkland appointed as the project’s cost manager. "We are wasting no time in getting on with the job of building this important redevelopment," Mr Stoner said. "It is expected that construction will commence late next year with some early works occurring on site prior to this. Construction of the new facility is expected to be completed in 2016," he said. Minister Skinner said that expanding the emergency department and providing contemporary models of care to suit the community’s needs was a crucial part of the redevelopment. "Other priorities include a new medical imaging department, expanding operating theatre capacity to help reduce surgical waiting times and a major expansion of renal dialysis services," Mrs Skinner said. Mid North Coast Local Health District Board Chair, Warren Grimshaw AM, said the announcement of the key members of the integrated consultant team was an important milestone. "The appointment of lead consultants is welcomed and is a step which will allow the commencement of the important planning and consultation phase of the redevelopment," Mr Grimshaw said.
