Rubella is caused by infection with a virus. Infection is usually mild, but can cause serious damage to unborn babies. Immunisation is recommended for all children at 12 months and 4 years. All women planning pregnancy should check their immunity.
Rubella is a laboratory notifiable disease in NSW and must be reported to the local Public Health Unit (PHU) as soon as possible after diagnosis.
Select your local PHU to obtain the correct notification form and notify your local PHU.
