About the NSW Public Health Bulletin

The NSW Public Health Bulletin is produced by the Population Health Division of the NSW Ministry of Health as an information vehicle for the public health community in New South Wales.

It was established in May 1990 as part of the newly-developed public health infrastructure in New South Wales. Its purpose is to enable the timely communication of information on major public health issues and thus to contribute to the development of a well-trained and informed public health workforce.

The Bulletin is indexed by MEDLINE.

Approximately 6000 printed copies are distributed nationally and internationally to a wide range of public health workers in a variety of settings including: public health units, laboratories, primary care settings and councils.

The Bulletin aims to provide its readers with population health data to motivate effective public health action by:

  • providing timely statewide feedback on the surveillance of notifiable communicable diseases;
  • publishing peer-reviewed articles describing local public health work;
  • reporting on general public health matters, such as major policy initiatives;
  • fulfilling a workforce-development role by providing a peer-review forum through which public health workers can publish their work;
  • reporting the results of work of the New South Wales public health workforce;
  • showcasing innovative public health work;
  • presenting the public health work of other divisions.

Comments or suggestions regarding the Bulletin are welcome and should be directed to:
