The 12 month intervention for long term stroke survivors included weekly exercise classes (lower limb Weight-bearing Exercise for Better Balance), a home program and advice to increase walking. A prospective randomised controlled trial was conducted, which found the intervention was more effective than the control in improving walking capacity and walking speed in community dwelling stroke survivors.
