Lessons Learned in Medication Safety

Medication is given to almost every patient treated in hospital and can deliver them enormous health benefits. To many patients, medication is the most important part of their overall medical treatment. However, medication use is not without risk and occasionally medications can cause harm. A portion of the adverse medication events that cause harm are preventable.
By uncovering the factors that contribute to these adverse events, taking action to address these factors, and sharing this information with other health professionals, we can help prevent others from being harmed with medication.
